Stop Surgar Coating and just be Honest

I just got off the phone with one of the top fitness pros in the world, Brian Grasso. Brian is the owner of the IYCA (International Youth Conditioning Association). Check it out at www.iyca.org. We were talking about youth fitness and a health fair I'm helping put together for youth fitness.

Let me tell you, if you want to know anything about youth fitness or youth training, this is your guy. Anyways, the conversation turned to the rising obesity epidemic with youth today. It's obviously a HUGE problem. Who's fault is it though?

The world is getting fat. We know that. We can SEE that. But what are we actually doing to SOLVE it? As of right now we are "sugar coating" any advice we are trying to use to solve this problem. We are trying to find a "nice" way of telling people that they are overweight and how to fix the problem. We've been doing that for YEARS. And every year the obesity rate rises.

Interesting, isn't it?

Listen, my view on this is that it's really nobody's fault but our own (I'm talking fitness industry). We've done a shit job at trying to solve the problem. The fitness industry is bigger than ever, yet obesity rates keep going up and up.

My advice (if you care to listen) is this. STOP being lazy and stop listening to everything the "experts" tell you. START eating your friggin' veggies and not some chips (we know it's awful for you, why are we still eating it?).

START taking responsibility for yourself and your kids. You raised your kids. If they were growing up in an environment where there was a lot of unhealthy eating going on, you can't blame them for eating like shit. They learned from YOU!

Honestly, I can go on for awhile here but i think i made part of my point anyways.

Straight to the point honesty is the best medicine for this situation, I believe.

You know the phrase, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Well something is seriously "broke" in the health of most people and as of right now we are trying to fix it the same way we've always tried to fix it. And if it's not working then you have to change something. And I WANT TO CHANGE this badly.

So I'm going to give you a different approach. I'm going to give you my honest opinion and I really hope it will help you or somebody in your life who needs it.

Let's start living the way we were meant too. Happy and healthy!

Yours in fitness,

Dan Grant

PS - I'd like to personally take the time to thank Brian for setting aside some time to talk to me today. I'm trully grateful for the talk.

Hey Dan,

I'm in the industry and you are right! But the problem as I see it is too many fit pro's are here for the money.

We need to do what's right for our clients! Get them off of the cybex and lifefitness "furniture" and make them work. Make them strong, healthy and injury proof. Stop spotting them on the 10lb preacher machine!

Stand and deliver!

Steve,

Sounds like we have very similar training ideas.

And I do agree. A LOT of fit pro's think it's an easy buck to make and A LOT of people are "paying the price" for it. It's sad to see.
